Backyard Locavores Tour

Cumberland County Maseter Food Preservers and Master Gerdeners are offering a Backyard Locavore Tour. The purpose of hte tour is to provide people with strategies for growing, raising, harvesting and preserving their own foods. An August 8 you are invited to see backyard examples of "how to do it yourself" through vegetable gardening, raising chickens (for eggs and meat), beehives, fruit trees, composting, and preserving foods through freezing, canning, drying and root cellaring. Backyard Locavore Garden Tour routes are being developed in the Cape Elizabeth/Scarborough area and Yarmouth/Cumberland area. They are still working out the details, but call them at 780-4205 to be placed on the interest list.
