Peak oil is not about running out of oil. It's about running out of inexpensive oil in the huge quantities to which we have become accustomed. In addition to peak oil, the same phenomenon exists for coal, natural gas, and uranium. See John Howe's peak oil chart showing this as well as some fundamental facts about energy.
